of present day Kalkaska Township. The ledger containing this information
is held at the Kalkaska Historical Museum on Cedar Street in Kalkaska, Michigan.
The museum is open during the months of June, July, and August, between Memorial
Day and Labor Day.

KALKASKA TOWNSHIP, EVERGREEN CEMETERY
Evergreen cemetery is located in the village of Kalkaska, on the west side, at the end of Third Street. Information was taken from sexton records which usually provided more than date of birth and date of death.
The Evergreen cemetery book is available for research at the Kalkaska County Public Library on Cedar Street. Book will soon be available to purchase.

The dates of death for Josephine and John don't make sense. I have a photo of Josephine holding Charles Edward Magee, as an infant. he was born in 1918, so Josephine was alive in 1918. Aunt Betty, born in 1928, remembers John S Magee dying.
As for the lot numbers, 316 and 361 are very similar. Transpose 16 to 61, and you have 6 bodies in Lot 361. Clarence was the last one to die, so if there is room for 6 bodies, he would naturally be buried in plot number 8.

on M-66 then east on W. Sharon Road one quarter of a mile.

of death, lot and grave numbers, lot owners, and stone inscriptions. Available

In June of 1894 census enumerators recorded the names of U.S. soldiers of the Civil War living in Michigan. 42, 544 soldiers were enumerated. 34, 946 were native and 7,598 were foreign born. 148 Confederate soldiers resided in the state at that time. 102 were native and 46 were foreign-born. The average age was 55.41 yrs.
