The ESC is a regional commission of the International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth's Interior (IASPEI), itself a specialized association of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG). |
TABLE OF CONTENTS DISCLAIMER: Starting in January 2009, the USGS National Earthquake Information Center no longer located earthquakes smaller than magnitude 4.5 outside the United States, unless they received specific information that the earthquake was felt or caused damage. I switched over to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre, which appears to be more accurate, especially after the January 2009 action of the USGS. This accounts for the big difference in earthquakes starting from 2005 to the present date.
